A clear licence model, priced for the deployment

CDP is source-available for evaluation and development. Production use is licensed per instance. We do not publish fixed prices because every deployment is sized by trust count, modules, support level and hosting model — but the structure is straightforward.

01

How the licence works

CDP is released under the Business Source Licence 1.1. You can read, evaluate, modify and run the code for non-production purposes without charge. A production instance requires a paid licence from VUIT Data Labs.

Each release has a Change Date. Four years after that date, that specific release converts automatically to Apache-2.0. This gives customers long-term portability without giving away the current commercial value of the latest build.

The licence is per production instance, not per seat. You may run as many non-production copies as you need for development, testing, training and disaster recovery within the same organisation.

02

What a production licence covers

  • Source-available reference build under BSL 1.1
  • Right to deploy one production instance per licence
  • NHS CDM model currency and patch releases
  • Standard documentation, runbooks and API specs
  • Named support channel and issue triage
  • Access to training materials and office-hours support

Engagement models

Evaluation

Non-production use of the repository, documentation and synthetic sandbox is free under the BSL. Use it to validate the model, test FHIR interfaces and build an internal business case.

Design partner

A single Trust works with us through a synthetic pilot and one-domain proving ground. Licence fees are typically deferred until the production instance is accepted.

Enterprise agreement

A multi-Trust or national body agrees a single framework covering production instances, support, model currency and professional services. Pricing is shaped by scale, modules and SLA.

Self-hosted or managed

The production instance runs in your own tenancy or HSCN-connected estate. We can operate it for you, or your team can run it with our support. Hosting responsibility changes the support model, not the licence.

What shapes the price

Instances and scale

A national platform plus a number of Trust instances. Larger estates, higher ingest volumes and more concurrent workloads affect the support and infrastructure commitment.

Modules

Core repository and FHIR interfaces are standard. Analytics, AI/ML, reconciliation harness and advanced IG tooling are optional modules that can be added now or later.

Support and SLA

From business-hours advisory support to 24×7 operational cover with defined response times. The SLA also governs how quickly the NHS CDM is updated when the canonical model changes.

Contract term

Multi-year agreements typically include a fixed annual platform fee, per-instance fees and a pre-agreed uplift. Shorter pilots use a simplified statement of work.
05

Optional additions

  • Managed hosting and operational run services
  • Implementation, migration and reconciliation support
  • Custom model extensions and PAS mapping work
  • Advanced analytics, AI/ML and pathway modules
  • Higher-tier SLA and dedicated technical account cover
06

Procurement approach

We are comfortable working through NHS frameworks, direct award or a competitive process. The usual starting point is a short evaluation and, where appropriate, a paid pilot with a pre-negotiated option to roll out under an enterprise agreement.

For national bodies, we can structure a single framework that sets standard terms and unit rates, with individual trusts then calling off instances under that agreement.

All contractual documents are reviewed by solicitors before signature. Nothing on this page is an offer or a binding quotation.

No price list

We do not publish fixed prices because a national platform, a single acute trust and a mental-health collaborative have very different support and scale profiles. Tell us the scope — instances, modules, SLA and term — and we will return a clear, itemised proposal.

Send us the scope you have in mind. We will come back with a proposed structure, not a hard sell.
